Financials

Planet Narcolepsy is NOT a (501-3)c Non-Profit Organization. However, that does not mean there are not overhead costs involved with our site and mission.

Planet Narcolepsy started in 2010. In our first year, we received no donations, sold no products, and had no income. Costs for the group included:
- $154.84 to set up original site: domain registration, hosting plan, secure site certificates, privacy protection, etc.
- $ 39.98 at end of year for the following year’s registration and certificates.
- $ 35.00 membership to Narcolepsy Network (while also a personal medical expense, this helped open doors for networking and marketing)
- $ 87.76 materials: stationary, business cards, postcards, promotional samples
- $ 84.41 books, journals, articles for research and information
- $360.00 VoIP phone line with ability to contact around the world at no cost to caller

Actual costs (not counting travel and misc.) for 2010: $761.99

Further, some “assumed” costs were not tallied, but can be estimated. For instance, labor time would probably be equivalent to part time for one of each (current wage from CT Department of Labor):

-Web designer/developer & IT specialist $36.66/hr
-Writer/Researcher, Typist $16.97/hr
-Marketing Manager, Advertising & Promotions $38.84/hr
-Graphic designer $25.03/hr
-Info Clerk $19.96/hr

To make it easy, we’ll assume that altogether, they work a 40 hour week, broken evenly. Considering Planet N was born the second week of January, that’s $56,0883.68 for the year 2010 in labor.

Please consider a small donation to help cover ongoing (and rising!) costs.
